Lou’s News #19 – Icefall photo from Denali, and scones

Post by Lou Dawson | April 17, 2024

Hi All,
Below, check out a newsletter bonus photo. It surfaced a few days ago from the depths of the collection. That’s your friendly author at the head of the Muldrow Glacier, Denali, 1973, enjoying the sights and sounds of Harper Icefall dropping 3,000 of vert just above my noggin. It was a campsite with full-screen action! The route swings looker’s left here (out of photo), following Karstens Ridge to avoid the Harper, which still awaits a first descent. (Just kidding about the descent.) The late Robert “Pimmy” Pimentel grabbed the Kodachrome.

Avalanche Dreams… The book roll-out has been a fun ride, and it’s far from over. In fact, we’re just getting started.

A big THANKS for your excellent feedback. Here’s one that came in a few days ago:
“Lou- Just a quick thank you for your book! I ordered three copies as my two early 20s boys each received a copy. My words to them were rather simple: ‘This book is as much about life as it is about climbing and ski mountaineering.’ They both grew up ski racing and skinning with me and my wife. While they are each pursuing corporate careers as I did after four years of ski bumming, they hold the mountains close to their souls. This book offers much for them to understand about life’s hurdles, so thank you!”

NUTS AND BOLTS

Please note we’ve scheduled two Colorado book signings:
May 3, 6:00 pm, Cripple Creek Backcountry, Carbondale
May 25, 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Colorado Snowsports Museum, Vail

Amazon remains the best option for mail order, but the book is now stocked at Cripple Creek Backcountry, Vintage Ski World (premium priced as signed copies) and the Redstone General Store up the Crystal (cool place on HWY 133 a few miles south of our World Headquarters in Colorado).

For the moment, soft-cover is the only available format — soon to be remedied.

As for bookstores across our fair land, distribution will kick in over coming months. Explore Booksellers in Aspen might be the first.

It’ll be up to the bookstores whether they stock Avalanche Dreams, or just special order it. Be sure to ask.

Also coming up, I’m still figuring out the best way to publish a bonus chapter. Stay tuned for that little ditty.

Below, on the shelf in Redstone, near the baked goods. Will write for scones?

Will write for scones.

Will write for scones.

Important
As I suggested in our last newsletter, be aware that the Amazon “hard cover” option is a case-laminate, meaning the jacket is fixed to the front and back boards. We like this format, but don’t mistake if for the jacketed hard-cover version. And unless you’re buying pre-signed collector versions of the book, be sure you pay no more than our MSRP (U.S.) prices, which are detailed on our shopping page.
